3.9.1.1. Cut, Copy and Paste Functions

3.9.1.1.1. Cut

The button that looks like a pair of scissors on the top row of the editing toolbar allows you to cut text or images from your page. To do so, highlight the text or image you wish to cut from the page, and then click the button on the toolbar.

3.9.1.1.2. Copy

The next button to the right on the toolbar looks like two sheets of paper. This is the copy button. This button, in combination with the next button to the right (paste) allows you to copy content from one location on your page to another. Just highlight what you would like to copy, and click the copy button. The highlighted items will be copied and ready to paste somewhere else.

3.9.1.1.3. Paste

The next button to right allows you to paste the content you have copied from one location on your page to another location. To paste what you have copied, position your cursor on the page where you would like the pasted item(s) to appear, and click the paste button.

3.9.1.1.4. Paste as Plain Text

The next button to the right looks very much like the previously described paste button except that it has a letter T in the centre. In this case, the button allows you to paste text you have copied from somewhere else (on your page, from another page, or from an outside document) into the editing area of your page as plain text (with formatting removed). To do this

  1. Copy your text from the source location.
  2. Place your cursor where you would like to paste the text on your page
  3. Click the paste as plain text button and a dialogue box will open.
  4. Click inside the dialogue box and then hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard while you press the letter V.
  5. The text you wish to paste will appear inside the dialogue box with formatting removed.
  6. Click [insert] on the bottom left of the dialogue box to paste the text into your page.

Note: This dialogue box will open automatically whenever you attempt to paste text.

3.9.1.1.5. Paste From Word

The next button to the right on your editing toolbar allows you to paste from MSWord into your page. This button translates the formatting in MSWord into HTML, so you don't have to reformat your material. If you use the Paste from Word editing feature you'll find that many code translation issues will be corrected before the content is pasted, and the underlying HTML code is less likely to be compromised. Follow the same steps you used with the paste in plain text button above. This option does not open automatically since the editor defaults to the "paste as plain text" option whenever you attempt to paste text.

Note: recent versions of the Firefox web browser have a security setting that may prevent the cut/copy and paste functions from operating normally. To get around this restriction, always paste using the Paste as Plain Text or the Paste from Word options, even when copying and pasting within your page. Alternatively, if you receive an error message from Firefox, follow the link provided for instructions on how to turn this security feature off, or you can use a different web browser.
