3.9.1.5. Formatting Text
When using the Bistro WYSIWYG editor in Standard Mode, you have a number of text formatting options available on the toolbar.
3.9.1.5.1. Using predefined formats
Styles
The Styles drop down list on your toolbar gives you access to a list of predefined styles if they have been created for your website. If your site does not have any pre-defined style sheets, this button will not work.
If you do have pre-defined styles associated with your website, you can either
- Highlight the block of text you wish to apply a style to,
- Click on the Styles drop down list, and
- Select the desired style from the list.
- The selected style will be applied to the highlighted text.
or
- Place your cursor on your page where you would like your style format to begin,
- Click on the Styles drop down list,
- Select the style you wish to use from the list, and
- Begin typing.
- Any text you type from that point on will be formatted according to the style selected until a different style or formatting is chosen.
Formats
The Format drop down list on your toolbar gives you access to a list of predefined header and paragraph formats if they have been created for your website. If your site does not have any pre-defined formats, this button will not work.
If you do have pre-defined formats associated with your website, you can either
1. Highlight the block of text you wish to apply a format to,
2. Click on the Format drop down list, and
3. Select the format you want to use from the list.
4. The selected format will be applied to the highlighted text.
or
1. Place your cursor on your page where you would like the selected format to begin,
2. Click on the Format drop down list,
3. Select the format you want to use from the list, and
4. Begin typing.
5. The selected format will be applied to any text you type from that point on until you choose a different format.
3.9.1.5.2. Selecting fonts
The Font Family drop down list allows you to select from a list of available fonts. (to view available fonts, click on the down arrow directly to the right of the words Font Family).
1. Highlight the block of text you want to have appear in a particular font,
2. Click on the Font Family drop down list and
3. Select the desired font from the list.
4. The selected font will be applied to the highlighted text.
or
1. Place your cursor on your page where you would like your desired font to be applied,
2. Click on the Font Family drop down list,
3. Select the font you wish to use from the list, and
4. Begin typing.
The selected font will be applied to any text you type from that point on, until you select a different font.
3.9.1.5.3. Selecting font sizes
The Font Size drop down list allows you to select from a list of available font sizes. (to view available font sizes, click on the down arrow directly to the right of the words Font Size).
- Highlight the block of text you want to appear in a particular size,
- Click on the Font Size drop down list and
- Select the desired size from the list.
- The selected size will be applied to the highlighted text.
or
- Place your cursor on your page where you would like your desired font size to be applied,
- Click on the Font Size drop down list,
- Select the size you wish to use from the list, and
- Begin typing.
The selected font size will be applied to any text you type from that point on, until you select a different size.
3.9.1.5.4. Adding Bold, Italics, Underline formats

To add Bold, Italics or Underline (or a combination of them) to your text, you can either
- Highlight the text you would like to add the formatting to
- Click the appropriate button (or buttons) on the toolbar to add the selected format.
or
- Place your cursor on the page where you want the formatted text to begin
- Click the appropriate button (or buttons) on the toolbar, and
- Begin typing
Any text you type from this point on will have the selected formatting until turn it off (by re-clicking the same button(s).
3.9.1.5.5. Bulleted & Numbered lists

You may wish to format a list of items on your page with bullets. To do this you can either
- Highlight a list of items you have already typed on your page, and
- Click the Bullet button on your toolbar.
- Your list of items will be formatted with bullets.
or
- Place your cursor on the page where you want your bulleted list to begin,
- Click the Bulleted List button to activate bulleting, and
- Begin typing your list.
- Each time you hit enter on your keyboard, a new bulleted line will be added to your list.
You may wish to format a list of items on your page with numbers. To do this you can either
- Highlight a list of items you have already typed on your page, and
- Click the Numbered List button on your toolbar.
- Your list of items will be formatted as a numbered list.
or
- Place your cursor on the page where you want your numbered list to begin,
- Click the Numbered List button to activate numbering, and
- Begin typing your list.
- Each time you hit enter on your keyboard, a new numbered line will be added to your list.
3.9.1.5.6. Changing the text colour

To change the colour of the text on your page you can either
- Highlight the text you wish to add colour to,
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Text Colour button (the button with the A above),
- The colour palette will open (see image on right).
- Select the colour you want to apply to your text by clicking on it in the palette.
- The selected colour will be applied to the highlighted text.
or
- Place your cursor where you want to begin typing your coloured text,
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Text Colour button (the button with the A above),
- The colour palette will open (see image on right).
- Select the colour you want to apply to your text by clicking on it in the palette, and
- Begin typing.
- Anything you type from that point on will appear in the selected colour until you select a different colour.
3.9.1.5.7. Changing the text background colour

You can also change the colour of the background of your text. To do so, you can either
- Highlight the text you wish to add a colour background to,
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Background Colour button (the button with the ab above),
- The colour palette will open (see image on right).
- Select the colour you want to apply to your text background by clicking on it in the palette.
- The selected colour will be applied to the background of the highlighted text.
or
- Place your cursor where you want to begin typing text with a coloured background,
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Background Colour button (the button with the ab above),
- The colour palette will open (see image on right).
- Select the colour you want to apply to your text background by clicking on it in the palette, and
- Begin typing.
- Anything you type from that point on will have the selected background colour until you select a different colour.
